Sustainable Development in the Public Sector
As the effects of climate change, resource exhaustion and economics become increasingly more apparent the necessity to achieve more sustainable construction outcomes is being forced up the agenda. Legislation and regulation is setting some tough timetables for the construction sector to effect massively disruptive changes to conventional building thinking and methodology.
The Government has made it abundantly clear that these goals are non-negotiable and truly necessary for not only the future of our prosperity but for our way of life and, ultimately, our very existence.
Buildings and the building process consume large amounts of energy and materials as well as producing a substantial proportion of total carbon emissions; additionally, because of their longevity, they continue to do so over extended periods.
The design and practical delivery of our buildings affect the way that we live, work and play: buildings are demanding of energy, water and all manner of products which affect the aspects of sustainability.
